Track Name: Meet Me at the Front Lines
She’s okay with wet cigarettes and roses in her hair
She is the finest thing
She’s alright with Brooklyn, and she’s alright by me
Oh darling, you were meant for me

Her mother was a mystic, she is a magical child
Her love is the sweetest thing
We both agreed the Boomers sucked and we wondered why the 60’s died
Well some things, they just aren’t meant to be

Meet me at the front lines, I hear there is something going on
I ain’t sure what it looks like, but I’m sure that you and me can carry on
And we’ll carry on
And all the king’s army came along

She took her body back in time, and she came back as a subway line
Beneath those New York streets
I came back as the Y.P.G. all bleeding out in the infantry
But what’s that got to do with you and me

Meet me at the front lines, I hear there is something going on
I ain’t sure what it looks like, but I’m sure that you and me can carry on
And we’ll carry on
And all the king’s army came along

Then one by one we occupied where the brokers guard the money lines
And there we made our stand
They mocked what we were fighting for “Poor boy, give up your father’s war”
But my darling she’s too good to me

Now halfway through her cigarette with asphalt in her hair
She is the finest thing
We sank into each others’ eyes under billy clubs and flashing lights
Oh darling, you were meant for me

Meet me at the front lines, I hear there is something going on
I ain’t sure what it looks like, but I’m sure that you and me can carry on
And we’ll carry on
And all the king’s army came along
Track Name: She Holds On
She had heart despite the townsfolk, she had heart despite the town
And she holds on until the holiness departs

Found her brother for the winter, took the money to his home
There was hardly fitting music for the scene
He took a fall in London, now there’s no way to get around
And he lives off of the demons of the mind
And she holds on until the holiness departs

She went back to her working, publishing a magazine
The snowstorm stirring up a fantastic hell
The whiskey in her mug took to the brim and she is impotent
She drank with ragged shadows of herself
And she holds on until the holiness departs
She holds on ‘till the holiness departs

The devil’s kiss was dimly lit when it finally arrived
A dark and hundred miles overground
The spring was spitting hard when it came down from the mount
And said that winter is followed by god. By god.

She fell into mohair sweaters, swinging coats in a blinding rage
Ripping branches, thudding trees like cannonballs
She is stranded in her tower, a screaming cinderella
And her voice could light a candle in the stars
She holds on until the holiness departs
She holds on till the holiness departs
She holds on until the holiness departs

She had heart despite the townsfolk, she had heart despite the town
And she holds on until the holiness departs
Track Name: Song in a Solemn Key
Leave me a place, a space in your heart
A place for to quench all my yearning
And when I go, when I go there I will remain
As the moon stays, the moon stays hanging fixed ‘till every morning

I know that you, my love, will not deliver up that place
But I’ll do what I will with my passions
There’s a place I know made of marble and gold
And I won’t boast, but I will hold on close to what I’m given

And when I grow old and the birds swing low
And the wayward vines go a roamin’
Yes in that place I’ll wait by that same old gate
As the days go by and lilacs die and the crow is gently crooning

Leave me a place, a space in your heart
With your long white hands will you hold me?
And in that place I’ll wait
And there I’ll stand, a monument ‘till my love you decide on returning
Track Name: Dealing with the Details
Blighted bits of satisfaction
In the sounds from the city streets
I try to learn the art of sailing
And there's so many ships at sea

I took a pause there on the pavement
I took the peace that it provides
And the moment passed in silence
On a golden sea of time

Are their sails stealing good fortune?
Are they favored by the winds?
Making the most of every moment
Do they love and do they let love in?

My head hung and hands are hidden
I want it over again and again
I'm dealing with all these details
That have tripped up much lesser men

So this act was all just feigning
I broke the fourth wall in this play
I'm standing here with shackles dangling
Darling what is there left to say

So lie me in the orchard
In the blackness of an elm
Take the last stretch to the silent waters
Where I don’t have to let anybody in

Now I am halted in the hallway
I am clinging to the calm
I'm not asking you to love me
I'm just wondering where I went wrong
Track Name: Hog Butcher, Hog Butcher
I came in hot to a Northwest city where Timmy pounds the steel
He has the words To Hell With The Government flung out in a trash tattoo
I was feeling like whole bunch of wild dogs. I was feeling like a speeding train
I was thinking about a girl from Gainesville, how I gotta get back there soon

I hate turning back like the east hates west, and I really hate your town
I made a bet and put my money down on a horse named “California”
I missed the race and I’m low on sleep and I’ll probably loose my mind
But I’m pushing hard until I hit New York, where I gotta pick up a typewriter

I was moving fast leaving burning tracks. Lord knows I’m a misguided fool
I fought my way from town to town, but I don’t think the West was won
I held my fist and I burned my list and I drank like I had nothing to lose
‘Till god and you and me made sense and I finally came undone, unglued

I went up on a mountain, but I came back down again
I sold the rifle on my shoulder to pay for my last meal
I took my dagger from its holder, and I turned it back on me
I opened up my chest. And in the emptiness, all I wanted was to feel

I sold my heart to the Butcher, he fed it to the hipsters and the wannabes
I gave the rest to the witches, to the brokers and the thieves
They said “There ain’t to revolution, no there’s nothing on TV”
Hog Butcher, Hog Butcher what’d you do to me? Can you help me get to heaven?
Track Name: Andy's Song
Andy wants to be a good man
Make an honest living with his eager hands
It seems like every time there’s a load to share
You know he can’t help but take it

Susie wants to be the right woman
Raise a proper family in a righteous home
Pregnant with her second right around nineteen
And Andy left her at twenty

He grew up in the church every Sunday
Asking for the father to forgive his sins
But when Andy loved a man and he told them,
The congregation never asked him back again

By day he was a driller but he dreamed of more
So Andy quit his job on the Arctic shore
Now he’s paining lines with his gifted mind
The whole wide world turns to magic

They said he’d never make it but he heeded none
Andy’s drawings told a story in a secret tongue
Of the future of the land and the fate of man
While all the wells kept on burning

Susie raise the family and their life was sweet
They moved out to the country by the cottonwood trees
She read weekly in the paper of the Arab Spring
And there are roses in the tundra where winter used to be

Twenty years later down in Central Square
Two handsome boys with guitars behind their shaggy hair
You can see a bit of Andy shining through their eyes
It was their father who inspired them to live their lives
Track Name: King of Spades
Follow me across the sea and be a witness to this State
Fly free little love, let down your crimson curls
You wanted to see the races, we’ll soon be on our way
To where hearts are fast, and true love comes in an instant

We’ll marry her for her money, and not on intimate terms
We’ll claim no part in claiming with the power of property
We drum into authenticity. We’re chasing her charity.
“This world is a wondrous place.” is a sobering statement

Don’t mind the corpses at the door, this is just the adjustment phase
Just go about your business feigning ignorance
We’ll order from current catalogues, and join in the country club
The devil, he wears a smile and a fashionable fedora

In our first year on the street we’ll be drinking with the best
It feels good to be in uniform at the neighborhood parade
We’ll meet dashing designers, we’ll be digging out our graves
We’ll take all we can, and take a cab to the weekend party

Don’t consider your conscience, just fall in line and numb the thinking mind
Let your eyes glow gleaming green with aching envy
We pricked the balloon of madness in a gluttonous debate
We’re too grand and much too greedy to practice patience

The Banker and the Broker paid off Congress yesterday
Bored exercises in power, god bless our muted lies
Some vague illumination, don’t stop to wonder why
With machine gun shells and cigarettes on the flagstones

The good ol’ boys and the good ol’ book own every mansion and saloon
So be a man and join in the picnic, or join in the army
An alcoholic harlot with her plastic forks and spoons
Serving trumped up excuses with a smile

The cards are cold and the dealer’s dead, as freedom fades away
A pity, what a pity, oh what a goddamn waste
To feel the stab of satisfaction on your 21st birthday
Land of the Free, Home of the King of Spades
Track Name: Cigarettes Are Fine
I wish I was a better man wish I was not just what I am
It was true and still is every time
I'm a rolling stone that keeps on rolling a weary heart that keeps on tolling
The rain tastes like ember and the cigarettes are fine

I made a bet with fate, I tried to cheat using my father's hand
Two pair still didn't beat three of a kind
He said poor boy now you’re the cursed you missed out on the promised land
You're goin where the rain tastes like ember and the cigarettes are fine

I was chasing sets of 18 wheels ten thousand miles of cotton fields
I always chase my whiskey with cheap wine
It never means quite anything we drink until we get our fill
Until the rain tastes like ember and the cigarettes are fine

I heard about a man who wandered off into Afghanistan
Well he came back a few years down the line
They asked how he was treated in that heathen middle eastern land
He said the rain tasted like ember and the cigarettes are fine

I found myself south of the south down south of the banana line
I'll write to you a postcard with a lie
I'll tell you in the south the weather's good and I am doin fine
That the rain tastes like ember and the cigarettes are fine

I wish I was a better man wish I was not the thing I am
It was true and still is every time
I'm a rolling stone that keeps on rolling a weary heart that keeps on tolling
The rain tastes like ember and the cigarettes are fine
Track Name: Oh, Donegal
With the scent and sway of your shores
Don't take from me my precious little dove
Oh Donegal, let her go

You don't know the way she quivers and she shakes
As the engines carried her away
At my touch how she breaks into dust under the wake
Oh Donegal, let her go
Oh Donegal, let her go

You have secrets to keep, there is poison in The Glen
You have not heart when sailors sing
Your old selfish winds they would steal her in the end
Oh Donegal, let her go
Oh Donegal, let her go

I begged and I pleaded in a message to the sea
To bring back my little dove to me
Oh my love faretheewell, no she was not yours to keep
Oh Donegal, let her go
Oh Donegal, let her go

Send my dove back to me, send me rust of Autumn leaves
Gold of gorse, green of mead, and mountain bramble
All of these I shall weave into a coat of peppered tweed
Oh Donegal, let her go
Oh Donegal, let her go
Oh Donegal, let her go
Oh Donegal, let her go
Track Name: Gasoline Dream
Writhing and wringing in gasoline dreams
Together accepting some damned destiny
We let out the string so recklessly
Not daring to reckon the risk it would be
To be gone in a gasoline dream

Remember the miracles that burst in your veins
Undressing for centuries, face first through the green
In pitch perfect shadows, hot hallowing scenes
Then I stole out the exit so purposefully
Gone in a gasoline dream

I mirrored the moon across tangerine sands
Bound by some circumstance I will never understand
As the raven went ransacking sycamore trees
Eyes pine to peel back the past back to the start
Gone in a gasoline dream

My lover your weeping could not set us free
This quake will end quickly, it will end in defeat
Awake from your wondering, from this gasoline dream
I am gone I am gone wherever that be
I am gone I am gone wherever that be
When you call out my name, when you reach out for me
I'll be gone in a gasoline dream
